Delhi to Agra and Back - two day trip under planning!

Leaving for a visit to the Taj Mahal tomorrow - 15th August 2008 to return sometime during the afternoon of 16th August - Rakshabandhan.

First news: Taj Mahal remains closed every Friday. So won't be able to visit the Taj tomorrow.

The schedule is:

Delhi to Mathura

Spend some time at Mathura looking out for

  • Shri Krishna Janmasthan
  • Gita Mandir
  • Dwarkadheesh Temple
  • Vishram Ghat
  • Kans Qila
  • Sati Burj
Then drive down to Sikandra Fort before reaching Agra

At Agra, first check the bookings that we've done for the night and then if we have sufficient time, we head to Agra Fort to catch a glimpse of the Taj from afar. The Agra fort is also the Red Fort of Agra with important things to watch out for being:
  • Diwan-E-Khas
  • Diwan-E-Aam
  • Octagonal Tower
  • Moti Masjid
  • Jahangir Palace
  • Sheesh Mahal
  • Machhi Bhavan
  • Anguri Bagh etc.
The agra fort is optional, but Fatehpur Sikri is a must to be covered tomorrow evening. The Buland Darwaza awaits me. ;)

Then by evening back to Agra for the night. The following day, we head to the Taj early in the morning and then back to Delhi.

Linking your blog and google apps to a custom domain from Godaddy!

Wow! Finally the transition from http://kvineesh.blogspot.com to http://www.vineesh.info is complete! :)

It took awhile and I learned quite a bit along the way.

If you have purchased just a domain name from GoDaddy, you'd have to do quite a few things to get going. The following steps are only when you have bought your domain name from

I did but things didn't work out as they should have.

So what went wrong? hmm...

I registered for Google Apps as soon as I had registered my domain and once the verification was complete, I setup the website through the internal WYSIWYG builder. Then I decided that I wanted the blog to link to my domain and not a website.

This was supposed to be the easy part with the blogspot guide to use a custom domain name by changing the CNAME records, but the moment I configured my blogspot to publish on http://www.vineesh.info, it gave me an error that the domain is already in use. I realized that this may be due to the Google Apps. I deactivated the Web Pages component in the Apps, but the problem persisted.

If you are stuck at this stage (as I was), you can hope for some assistance from Google guys. Go here : Magical Custom Domain Form.

This ought to get your domain problem resolved within a day or two. Mine was solved within 24 hours and then I promptly directed my blog to the custom domain! :)

Ohh yeah, another part was configuring Google Apps Email with GoDaddy! For this I changed the MX records again at the domain manager. So I logged onto the domain manager at GoDaddy and into Total DNS Control and MX Records.

Deleted all the existing MX records and from "Add New MX Records", added the following MX records:

Priority: 10 ; Hostname: @ ; Goes To: aspmx.l.google.com. (don' t miss the dot after com) ; TTL: 1 week
Priority: 20 ; Hostname: @ ; Goes To: alt1.aspmx.l.google.com. ; TTL: 1 week
Priority: 30 ; Hostname: @ ; Goes To: alt2.aspmx.l.google.com. ; TTL: 1 week
Priority: 40 ; Hostname: @ ; Goes To: aspmx2.googlemail.com. ; TTL: 1 week
Priority: 50 ; Hostname: @ ; Goes To: aspmx3.googlemail.com. ; TTL: 1 week

Enabled email in Google Apps and it was done! :)

Ohh one final thing. I bought www.vineesh.info. But http://vineesh.info put me onto a GoDaddy parking page. So back to your DNX Control and there was a record under A (Host). Just deleted it and gave myself a break of a day. And yipee, it was all perfect! :)
